Gospel of the Kingdom (John 20:31)
In TIME PAST, when Israel’s Messiah was announced by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:1-3), God had been silent for more than 400 years.
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the Gospel (Mark 1:14-15).
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them (Matthew 4:23-24).
5 These twelve (apostles) Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not in the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not.
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give (Matthew 10:5-8).
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cane-ah of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him (John 2:11).
22a For the Jews require a sign (I Corinthians 1:22), proof of their ministry.
After the stoning of Stephen, the Jews that were scattered abroad continued this ministry to the Jews only during the Acts period (Acts 11:19).
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she cri-eth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel (Matthew 15:22-24).
8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers (Romans 15:8).
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons (Galatians 4:4-5).
22 …for salvation is of the Jews (John 4:22b).
19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only (Acts 11:19).
16 And Simon Peter answered (Jesus) and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock (this gospel) I will build my (Kingdom) church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:16-18).
The Nation of Israel needed to believe and receive the foundation of their Kingdom Church (Matthew 18:17), both their Gospel of the Kingdom, and receive the fulfilment of the David Covenant, that Jesus Christ was their Messiah, the Son of God, who had been prophesied, the one they were looking for, who was the 14th generation from the carrying away into Babylon (Matthew 1:17) and
5 the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of Jesse (Revelation 5:5).
During Jesus’s earthly ministry He told His disciples to minister primarily
6 to the lost sheep of the House of Israel (Matthew 10:6) to proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand and to believe on the name of Jesus, the Son of God.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:11-12).
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him (John 3:36).
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name (John 20:31).
Water baptism identified the believers, the little flock (Luke 12:32), with their Messiah.
John the Baptist and Jesus proclaimed that their earthly Kingdom was at hand.
IF the Nation would repent, receive their Messiah, the Son of God, and be baptized by water, by the Holy Spirit and by Fire, THEN God would bless the Nation and bring in the Kingdom.
What would determine personal blessing, their standing in the kingdom, depended on their own obedience to: keep the law, be circumcised, forgive others, give of their wealth, be willing to part from family members, take up their cross, heal the sick, have no fear of venomous snakes, raise the dead, cast out demons, have everything in common.
Receiving their Kingdom was unconditional, but when they would receive it was conditional.
The Kingdom was at hand and Israel’s Messiah, the one who would sit on the Davidic Throne (Psalm 132:11-13), was waiting to be received by His chosen people.
Faith was the key to bringing in the kingdom. Faith is what pleases God, faith in their Messiah.
The twelve disciples did not need to believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ as we do today in the age of grace.
They did not understand it (Luke 18:31-34; Mark 9:31-32; Matthew 16:21-23).
They needed to believe that Jesus was the Son of God and their Messiah.
31 Then he (Jesus) took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken (Luke 18:31-34).
