Prophesied Davidic Covenant
David, the fourteenth generation from Abraham (Matthew 1:17),
of the tribe of Judah, the second king of Israel, was first anointed by Samuel (I Samuel 16:12-13),
then by the men of Judah, to be king over the house of Judah (II Samuel 2:4),
and a third time, when the people of Israel anointed him to be their king (II Samuel 5:3)
Foreshadowing the future earthly millennial kingdom, God established the Unconditional Davidic Covenant (I Kings 9:5; II Samuel 7:12c).
Israel would look forward to the coming of their Messiah.
6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel. (II Chronicles 6:6).
3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
4 Thy seed will I establish forever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah (Psalm 89:3-4).
70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began (Luke 1:70).
The significance of the priest office declined and we see the rise of the office of prophet, the messenger of God, who would continue to prophesy the coming of their Messiah.
5 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:5-6).
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this (Isaiah 9:7).
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:1-2).
We see the foreshadowing of this prophecy fulfilled in Act 13:23; Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus.
9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one (Zechariah 14:9).
