Saved By Grace to Sit in Heavenly Places (Colossians 1:25)
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the AGES TO COME he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:4-10).
At the moment that we choose to places our faith in the Lord’s work, we are not assured of receiving physical blessings, but we are assured of receiving all spiritual blessings in heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3).
We are washed and sanctified by the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:11) and translated into the kingdom of His dear son (Colossians 1:13).
We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise into the Body of Christ until the day of redemption (Ephesians 1:14);
and we are spiritually baptized into (I Corinthians 12:13)
and identified with the Lord Jesus Christ, His death, His burial, and His resurrection (Romans 6:3-4).
He died our death, a perfect, sinless sacrifice for our sin, a sacrifice we could never have made for ourselves.
Believers are united with Christ and with His work on the cross; a living union with the Lord Jesus Christ.
13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth (II Thessalonians 2:13).
There is no water in this new baptism.
This baptism is all the work of the Holy Spirit who also spiritually circumcises all believers (Colossians 2:11).
The saved are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10) and can rest in His finished work.
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead (Colossians 2:12).
The old man, the old soul, is dead and buried with Christ and we are spiritually raised a new creature, a new creation in Christ, transformed by the Holy Spirit.
17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (II Corinthians 5:17).
When we read the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Spirit energizes the Word and makes it effectual and powerful in us.
We can put off the old man (Colossians 3:9),
mortify the deed of the flesh (Colossians 3:5-9),
cast off the works of darkness (Romans 13:12),
and put on the new man, the armor of light, which is after God in true righteousness and holiness (Colossians 3:10; Ephesians 4:24).
As servants of God, we are to live by the power of God (II Corinthians 13:4),
strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness (Colossians 1:11),
praising Him for His grace and for who He has made us in Christ. We are to walk circumspectly (Ephesians 5:15),
in newness of life (Romans 6:4; Galatians 5:16, 25),
in newness of Spirit (Romans 7:6),
in lowliness of mind, esteeming others better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3),
letting our speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man (Colossians 4:6),
as children of light (Ephesians 5:8),
in wisdom, redeeming the time (Colossians 4:5),
worthy of the Lord Jesus Christ unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10).
We can now walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit.
